It is like any Sunday morning in Mexico City. The air is thin and sharp. Detective Ernesto Sánchez has a headache, and a dry mouth. But then Sánchez gets a call from his mother in Canada, and everything changes. He is sent on a mission in search of a missing Canadian woman on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Moving uneasily in a world where benign tourism co-exists with extreme violence, Sánchez becomes a pawn in a shadowy power-play between corrupt police and drug cartels. Forced to make hard choices – desperate, wounded, and friendless – Sánchez takes refuge in the lawless mountains of Oaxaca. And discovers his fate.
